Students engage in self-directed STEM learning guided by educators who are effective facilitators of learning
We support our students to be facilitators of their own learning by subscribing to programs such as IXL, MobyMax, and Flocabulary that assist teachers in helping close learning gaps. Additionally, last year we enhanced classroom libraries with Scholastic STEM books to provide students with equal access to informational texts.
Standard 8, Concept 1: Students are encouraged to be critical and creative thinkers as owners and managers of their own STEM learning experiences.
Our district supports one-on-one technology. They have provided Compass Learning in the past and currently STAR Reading and math for our students to guide their own learning. We use these programs as progress monitoring tools to assess learning gaps and guide interventions and instruction. MobyMax, IXL Math, Flocabulary, and Spelling City are additional programs we purchase for students.
Alabama Virtual Library
Students use Alabama Virtual Library to research their own animal. Students record the data they have learned about their animal including what the animal can do, what the animal has, and other interesting facts about their animal.
Standard 8, Concept 2: STEM educators serve as facilitators who provide guidance and support for students as self-directed learners.
Choices in Learning
Classroom activities engage students into self-directed inquiry-based learning as seen in this English language arts class.
Learning Programs
Our school subscribes to programs in math, spelling, reading, and science for students to be self-directed learners. IXL allows students to work at their own pace to master grade level skills.
Students use MobyMax to close learning gaps through differentiated learning experiences. MobyMax gives students instant feedback is adaptive to meet students' academic needs.
Flocabulary is an educational hip-hop program to build a crosscurricular academic vocabulary in math, science, English language arts, history, and life skills.
Compass Learning provides data for educators to specify deficits in students' educational needs. It sets students on a pathway of learning to strengthen weaknesses and fill in gaps.
Spelling City is dedicated to assisting students, teachers, and parents. It allows students to practice phonics-based skills in an engaging gaming platform.
