School engages diverse STEM community in order to support and sustain STEM programs and initiatives
We could not build nor sustain our STEAM programs without our educational partners. Our Publicity Team was formed to reach diverse groups within our community to gain support for our STEAM programs such as The Amazing Shake. Our team presented at a Rotary Club luncheon, an Optimist Club luncheon, and an Elks Lodge meeting to generate support for our school competition. Our faculty also builds relationships in our community to form sustainable partnerships. We begin every school year by celebrating them in our Partners in Education Breakfast. We prepare breakfast for them, welcome them, and explain how their contributions support Florence B. Mathis Elementary School's STEAM programs. Breakfast is our way of showing our partners how much we appreciate them. In return, our partners invite us to STEM events, make monetary contributions, and hold events during business hours to support our school such as spirit nights. Our partners also never miss opportunities to support our STEAM projects such as our Egg Drop Challenge!
We also consider our state universities to be our partners in STEAM education. We invite our university heroes Big AL and Aubie to our annual awards event held at the end of every school year. We keep college in our students' vision and encourage them to create and plan for a future in STEAM education.

Our Partners in Education
Our partners in education include a wide variety of businesses and organizations around our community. Churches, the Foley Fire Department, the Foley Police Department, Centennial Bank, Baldwin Electric Membership Corporation all support our STEAM program by either voluteering throughout the school year or giving monetary donations. The University of South Alabama invites us to attend a STEM-focused field trip to their campus at the College of Engineering. Feed the Gulf Coast provides food for our homeless students and students with dire needs.

Students learned about gravity and force with designing a container to protect an egg from breaking after dropping it several stories high.
