STem community

Standard 4

School has established a shared vision for STEM and has leadership structures to support effective implementation

Narrative

Our school has a shared vision for STEAM. We are currently operating under Leader in Me as a platform to create and sustain a common language in STEAM throughout our school. We collaborate yearly to review our school's survey results in the areas of leadership, culture, and academics to make certain we have sustained our goals and remain united as a school community.

Standard 4, Concept 1: School has developed a model of shared leadership whereby structures exist both internally (i.e. STEM leadership team, STEM Coordinator) and externally (i.e. STEM Advisory Board, STEM Stakeholder Committee) to support and sustain STEM initiatives.

Our STEAM Leadership team meets during the summer and throughout the year monthly to create an action plan for sustaining STEAM initiatives. Our STEM Coordinators support our teachers and gives STEAM talks during monthly PLC meetings.

With our adoption of Leader in Me, we have created a Lighthouse team and have Leader in Me coordinators. Leader in Me supports the students' social emotional learning and provides a platform to support STEAM learning at our school. Teachers use the Leader in Me language that empowers students to be leaders of their own learning.

Standard 4, Concept 2: STEM leadership has effectively communicated a shared vision and mission for the STEM culture with goals and intended outcomes for STEM initiatives.

Our Publicity Team presents to our local business partners at Rotary Club, Optimist Club, and Elks Lodge to share our vision of STEAM goals and outcomes.

We keep families informed by using SeeSaw, a program used by our K-3 teachers. SeeSaw is for families to be informed and engage in their child's learning process. It allows students to create digital portfolios for teachers to gauge learning, and share with their families.
