Collecting early ideas
"If you can dream it. You can do it!"
Walt Disney
Planning your film is vital to facilitate the filming process. You must firstly choose an idea as a theme for the film and then go about thinking broadly about what will happen at the beginning , middle and end of the film. This information doesn't have to be very detailed in this part of the process. In addition consideration could be given to which theme(s) will be included in the film (e.g. friendship, good versus evil etc.) and what filming techniques will be used e.g. live filming (live action) , animation or a combination of both.
Creating a story board
Having roughly planned the film, you will require a more detailed plan of the main events of the film in storyboard form'. A storyboard is a series of frames used to sketch the key parts of the film. Sketches are acceptable in the storyboard as the purpose of the storyboard is to communicate what is happening in the story and how it will be achieved.
You can watch the film below from 'Into Film' about how to create a storyboard.
Here are some examples of potential storyboards you can use to plan your film.
Writing a script
Once you have planned the structure of your film, there are some further steps you can do before going about producing the film. To fit in with your storyboard, perhaps a script needs to be written to give dialogue to the film's characters.
