The science scheme in Ysgol Dyffryn Aman has been written to match up with the new Welsh curriculum.
Celyn and Caleb from Ysgol Y Bedol said "In year 7 science we learned about Starting Science, Volcanoes, Life in the past, Space and Oceans. Some things we learned in primary gave us a head start in YDA."
Ebony and Amelia from Ysgol Betws and Ysgol Bro Banw said "There are many rules for safety, like wear goggles and stand up for a science experiment, no phones and no running. It's a little like primary rules."
We decided to design our scheme of work in a thematic way and the themes for year 7 are Starting Science and Exploration. Most of the content and activities for the topics match up with progression step 4 but we do make sure that some of the progression step 3 statements are also covered.
Oliver from Ysgol Tumbl said " I learned about food chains in primary school, which I enjoyed very much."
Kairo, Amber, Isla and Nia from Ysgol Saron said "In YDA we have done harder work but once you settle down in school it won't be so hard".
The emphasis in year 7 and year 8 has been to design a scheme which the pupils find interesting and can allow them to make progress towards the later years in YDA.
Lewis, Gruff C, Betsi D, and Betsi O, Cerys, Alana and Ffion from Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman said "In primary we learned about space and the water cycle (condensing and evaporating) which gave us an advantage in the volcanoes and space booklets."
Betsan, Megan, Briallen, Hollie and Scarlett from Bro Banw and Brynaman said " In year 6 we learned about friction, forces and magnets. We also learned about space including an aerospace trip to Swansea."
