This week's language work is based on the 'Twm Siôn Bolgi' (The Highway Rat) book by author Julia Donaldson. Read the book yourself, or listen to Miss Williams reading it, before starting on today's tasks.

Cymhariaeth / Simile
Defnyddir cymariaethau er mwyn cymharu rhywbeth â rhywbeth arall.
Defnyddir y geiriau ‘fel’ neu ‘mor ... â’ wrth ysgrifennu cymhariaeth.
Similes are used to compare something with something else.
The words 'fel' (like) or 'mor....â' (as ... as a) are used when writing a simile.
As quiet as a mouse. As busy as a bee.

In the 'Twm Siôn Bolgi' story, the simile 'carlamai fel mellten' (galloped like lightning) is used to describe how the horse galloped (ran) quickly.
Task 2: Complete the sentences below by adding a simile. You can choose option 1, 2 or 3.
In option 2 and 3, you will also need to add adjectives.
Example - The rabbit jumped like an excited frog, after seeing a fly.

Task: Calculate how many minutes there are until the next hour. Remember to use your 5 times table.

The clock on the left shows the time and the clock on the right shows us the next hour. Count the minutes to work out how long there is until the next hour. Remember to only look at the big hand (mawr=munudau) and use the five times table to help.
4:30->5:00 = 30 munud / minutes

The story is about a boy who loses his temper with the members of his family when things go wrong. He soon realises that feeling angry makes him feel worse and has to deal with this emotion. We all get angry at times and there are things that make us lose our temper. It is important that we recognise what triggers our anger and know what to do when we get angry.
Task - What makes me lose my temper? Draw an outline of a volcano on a piece of paper or use the template provided. Inside the volcano write down what makes you lose your temper and makes you angry? In the cloud note what you tend to do when you lose your temper? On the outside write down ways in which you can deal with the emotion.
