Ysgol Y Moelwyn is a learning organisation. This means that we research and learn continuously about effective teaching and place emphasis on professional learning and practice based on research in order to improve our pedagogical skills. This is our way forward.
Excellent teaching is essential is we are to fulfil the four purposes, our school vision and the demands of Curriculum for Wales. Ensuring a learning environment of the highest standard is at the core of the school's values. Establishing consistency in every classroom in the school is extremely important to us in order to ensure a safe and stimulating environment so that our pupils are able to be enterprising, make mistakes confidently and learn in an environment of mutual respect where everyone's efforts are appreciated. We consider, share and develop our teaching strategies continuously. These strategies are based on our understanding of the 12 Pedagogical Principles noted in Curriculum for Wales and the methods we perceive to be successful in this school.
The school’s professional learning and research programme has increased staff confidence and pedagogical skills. Our quality management procedures help us to identify strengths and areas in need of development in terms of teaching and learning across the school so that we are able to provide training and professional development.
As well as this, practitioners identify an aspect of their practice which they wish to improve during the year and undertake research work. Recently this work has been based on Principles of Instruction by Barak Rosenshine. The principles discussed in this literature align with the 12 Pedagogical Principles of Curriculum for Wales. We will continue to identify areas for improvement over the next few years and address these accordingly in order to improve the practice and confidence of our staff.
