Year 4 - Adams Class
This has been a very busy term in Adams Class. We have been developing a range of skills to help us develop our knowledge and understanding of electricity, its development over time and the importance it plays in our lives.
English - Biographies and diary entries by
Across this term the children have made links between English and the wider curriculum, this was no exception to our first big piece of writing. The children created a biography on the work of Nikola Tesla. Their vocabulary choices, presentation and overall outcomes were amazing and I was so impressed.
We continued the theme of having a dream and wanting to achieve when reading the fabulous picture book FArTHER. We explored the themes of family, hopes and dreams and separation in this book. The children created a wonderful range of diary entries and had agency over how they presented them. Some did this in their books while others chose to type a few even created their own video diary entries.
Maths - Fractions and Decimals by
The children have spent this term consolidating their fractions knowledge from Year 3 and building upon this with our new knowledge. The children have developed their understanding of tenths and hundredths and how this looks as a fraction and a decimal. They have completed simple addition and subtractions of fractions with the same denominator. The children have counted past 1 in fractions and decimals. The children also worked hard to create mixed fractions from improper fractions. While completing our work on fractions the children began to recognise how their work on multiplication and division can help them.
Torches - Science and DT Skills
The children effectively made their own torches using a range of design specification which they created as a class. Using a range of junk modelling, they then made their own torches and inserted a simple circuit within this. The children used their Science skills to ensure that their circuit worked and that they could add a simple switch to control when their torch would be on and off.
Swimming - PE Skills
This term the children have developed and built upon their previous skills in the swimming pool. The progress made by all has been fantastic, some have worked on their strokes and how far they can swim while other children developed their confidence in the water.
Holy Week - RE Skills
The children have looked at the importance of the key dates during holy week and what the importance of this is for Christians. At the end of week 5 we also considered Ramadan and what this meant for Muslims. We discussed what Muslims both adults and some children would be doing each day and how they would feel if they were unable to eat during the day.
Medway Music Festival
This term we have had 12 children from our class represent not just our class but our school as part of the Medway Music Festival at Central Theatre, Chatham. These 12 children were absolutely fantastic and made myself, Mr Etheridge, Ms Sentovsky and Mrs Everett so proud when we watched them take to the stage to take part in the festival. They sang their hearts out, sang with a smile and their behaviour was impeccable. They embraced the sessions from Mr Ireland in our class setting and then learnt new skills on the day as part of their dress rehearsal. These new skills had to then be applied in the evening as part of the festival.
I could never have been that brave to get onto the stage. You were all amazing and I’m so proud of you.
Next term we'll continue to focus on learning our times tables ready for the Multiplication Check in the summer term. Please could you remind your children that although TTRS Soundchecks are timed we are focusing on the accuracy of their answers not the speed at which they answer them.
