This module we have explored the central idea that nature and natural cycles can be observed using our senses. Our lines of inquiry about what life cycles are and the changes within different animal life cycles have led to some exciting discoveries. We began by thinking about animals and their young, using technology to find out the names of a range of different baby animals. We then explored the human life cycle and how we grow and change as we get older. We loved playing guess who by looking at baby photos of ourselves and adults in the school. Trying to look at the physical features to make links to what they look like today. Our tiny caterpillars arrived in Week 3 and we have loved to watch them grow and change. We are all able to sequence and talk about the life cycle of a butterfly. They have grown, shed their skin and have transformed into a chrysalis. We are hopeful they will emerge as butterflies this week! We have written a butterfly life cycle in our life cycle journals, observing and writing about the changes we can see. We have also focused on our drawing skills, looking at the lines, shapes and colours of the different caterpillars and butterflies we have found out about. We enjoyed the book Yucky Worms, applying our knowledge gained from the book to dig for our own worms to create a wormery.
Drawing club has continued to develop our writing skills, we have especially loved 'The adventures from the past' through watching an old episode of Wacky Races and Road Runner. We are able to apply our phonics knowledge into our own sentences about the characters, setting or adventure time 'I wonder...' statements. Forest school has continued to be popular, with children being risk takers in the forest school environment. The children have been building their own forest school camp in our outside area.
We have used a range of tools and equipment safely. We have also enjoyed our new weekly 'Mystery Reader', with parents coming into school to read. We have to use the clues to try and guess who our reader might be!
Next module we are continuing with our central idea of nature and natural cycles through plants and planting.
