Da Vinci class have had a fantastic term following our central idea of 'Storytelling engages our curiosity, emotion and imagination'. We have explored different traditional tales and can now identify the key features of them; looking at different characters, settings, story openers and themes such as good over bad. Each week we focused on a different traditional story and retold the story through small world, drama, art and writing. We also learnt that traditional tales can teach us life lessons like not to talk to strangers (like Hansel and Gretel) or to be greedy (The troll from The 3 Billy Goats Gruff).
We were lucky to go on a class visit to Leeds Castle. Here we acted out the story of Sydney the Cygnet and got to dress up as different characters. We were taken on a tour of the castle grounds and found out about different features of the castle. Then we had great fun on the adventure playground, enjoying the challenge of the climbing wall and zip line.
In English and phonics we have developed our independence in writing words using the sounds we know and we are now working on writing sentences. In maths we have consolidated our bonds to 5 knowledge and developed our languauge to make comparisons between different wieghts and capacities. We are really enjoying Drawing Club and our pencil drawings are starting to add so much more attention to detail.
