Role of the Learning Coach

As the Learning Coach, you have an important role in supporting the student in their daily schooling. Students in grades K-8 rely on a Learning Coach to actively support them during the school day. MNVA is not set up for students to school independently without the support of an active Learning Coach in the schooling environment.

The typical time commitment for a Learning Coach varies per week, depending upon grade level.

K-5: Daily 4-6 hours per day

6-8: Daily 2-4 hours per day

9-12: Daily 1-2 hours per day

If you are a parent or guardian who is currently listed as your student's Learning Coach, but do not feel that you have the necessary time to support your student, please contact your student's teacher (once assigned) or contact the school counselor. As the parent/guardian, you are able to assign another adult of your choosing as the Learning Coach.

As the Learning Coach, you will need to support your student in setting up a daily school day. You will need to actively monitor your student during the school day. Learning Coaches will receive daily communication from teachers and/or the school. Learning Coaches will need to check their email frequently to ensure that the Learning Coach is aware of all school communications. Email is the primary means of communication between the school and students and/or Learning Coaches. Your email address is the email address that was provided by the parent/guardian during the enrollment process. If the Learning Coach is not receiving communications from the school, please contact the MNVA office to ensure that the correct email address has been provided.

Students must have their own school account. The Learning Coach will first set up the Learning Coach account. The Learning Coach will then set up the student account. Please read these articles fo for more information:

Students must use their student account to complete school tasks. Students must not have access to the Learning Coach account information. Learning Coaches should not have their password automatically saved onto a computer. For more information, please read the handbook.

As the Learning Coach (and also for parents/guardians), you are responsible for being aware of school policies, such as attendance requirements. The school policies are in the handbooks. Please read the handbook and contact the school if you have any questions.
