A. DiCerbo
Mr. A. DiCerbo was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts ( Honours) and Bachelor of Education from the University of Windsor. Adriano has taught Art, Photography, and Religion at the Secondary level for over twenty years and is currently the Lead Teacher of the Arts at St. Mary’s College. While teaching he shares his passion for the arts with his students and works at sustaining his own artistic practice.
Adriano’s artwork is held in both public and private collections including the permanent collection at the Art Gallery of Algoma and the Centre for Invasive Species. Adriano has received awards for his work including the Helen Veldora Bowly Award from the University of Windsor, Jurors Award from the London Regional Art Gallery, Detroit Artist Market, and Trinity School at River Edge, Minnesota.
Art without an audience just doesn’t cut it. Art belongs in the community and as a community minded member, Adriano has welcomed the opportunity to serve with a variety of organizations including the Board of Directors at the Art Gallery of Algoma, Sault College Graphic Design Advisory Board, Algoma University Fine Arts Advisory Member, Design Chair for Precious Blood Journey Project, and for the City of Sault Ste. Marie Cultural Vitality Sub-Committee. Mr. DiCerbo encourages his students to reach beyond the classroom and become active in the greater community.
Mr. DiCerbo strongly believes and advocates for the Arts in Education. When the Arts in education is nurtured and supported, it has the power to transform, to illuminate and to educate both student and viewer. As a life-long learner Mr. DiCerbo has been the recipient of Educational grants from the Ministry of Education including TLLP (Teacher Learning and Leadership Program) and Experiential Learning Grants.
The Algoma region has always captivated and fascinated him. Discovering what this place can reveal and teach us has been an ongoing learning journey. Adriano enjoys spending time in a canoe, being with family and friends, hiking the coast of Lake Superior, and baking organic artisan sourdough bread and pizza.
