At PHMS, our ongoing professional development supports effective teacher use of technology specifically with meaningful tech integrations using Canvas, our new LMS, along with other tools and resources.
During our August Preservice session, the VILS Coach and UDT introduced the program to an all new PHMS Team!
In addition to sharing the program basics, teachers were shown how to access and use the campus Canvas page as as a way to showcase the LMS capabilities
Throughout the first semester, teachers have been trained on tools in Canvas that can engage students to use STAAR 2.0 test item formats and resources that align with the campus Instructional Priority.
Topics Include: Discussions, Quiz/New Quiz, Assignments, Studio, and Embedding External Tools (H5p, OnTrack, Quizizz, Kahoot, Flip).
With a whole new staff came the opportunity to establish a new TLC at Patrick Henry MS. These teachers are leading the way with using technology in the classroom, including Canvas. These leaders are preparing to share their experiences using tech in the classroom and lead in PLCs in the Spring.
Ms. Angers holds her first PLC training for ELA team to learn how she uses Canvas to engage her students. Every team member left with a "Next Step" to practice in anticipation of the Spring semester.
What our data says:
How did we get there?
Many tech tools helped teachers engage students more readily engage with technology that supported these growth areas!
Our TTS data reflects growth of technology usage for our teachers as well.
A few areas that we want to highlight the increase of for teachers are:
students collaborating on devices on group assignments
students creating something of their own
students exploring data on their own
This year, with almost a brand new team at PHMS, we did have growth for our team! Although we did not have any lessons fall into the Infusion or Transformation levels, we did move from only 1% Adaptation during the first window, up to 4% in the second observation window!
From here, we will focus on continuing the momentum, and set forth campus wide growth goals for next year!
From the first TIM-O window, to the second, our BAN increased from 0.02 to 0.06!
We are determined to continue this momentum through next year!
COACHING SUPPORTS AND ARTIFACTS
Throughout the year, the VILS Coach provided support, for 1-1 instructional support as well as through weekly PLC meetings.
In regular PLCs sessions focused on Canvas as well as STAAR 2.0 support.
Many teachers took advantage of being able to meet with the Coach for these Coaching Menu items.
Click each "eye" to see some ways the Coach supported teachers in each area!
In addition to being able to book and meet with the Coach on a routine basis, Wired Wednesdays were more structured opportunities to get targeted support for each of these topics.
Wired Wednesday happened every other week, with Canvas sessions being provided monthly, targeting specific aspects to support instruction through our LMS.
Some of the Canvas topics included:
General setup/Course Publication
Assignments
Quizzes/New Quizzes
Discussions
Grade Passback
This year we successfully met 3 of our Action Step in our Sustainability Plan. One of the ways we are shining in this element is through providing ongoing access to the VILS Coach, daily. Our Coach provides formal whole group training, aligned to campus and district goals, that allow teachers immediate implementation and feedback opportunities.
Moving onward to the upcoming school year, our focus will be on hitting the additional Action Step, specifically by broadening the impacts of our Immersive Lab technologies for teachers, students, and the community. We will also focus on expanding and leveraging our TLC members to provide an even deeper reach among our team.
In the final weeks of this year, some teachers are getting connected already:
