Challenges
As a new leader, a major challenge has been learning the Verizon Innovative Learning program, how it's implemented and how it correlates with instruction. I've overcome this by meeting with the coach, district leads, the Digital Promise team, and seeing it in action.
Staff and student absences due to COVID have been a challenge throughout the year. Teachers have really come together to support each other to cover classes and keep communication and expectations clear and consistent.
Successes
22% of staff are new to Henry in 21-22.
Teachers have been eager to learn new tools and w ways to implement tech into their lessons.
Immersive Media Lab and the curriculum implementation and collaboration among lab teachers has been incredible.
Students in our Coding Club won 1st and 2nd place in the district's 1st annual Hack-a-thon CoderZ competition! We hope to expand by creating a robotics club next year.
Tech Team students have become campus leaders, teaching their peers new skills, testing out new technology and equipment, and creating how to videos for teachers.
Program Impact
VILS has helped both students and teachers grow and restructured how we teach. It provides equity because every student has access to a device and can participate in tech-integrated instruction, extra-curriculars, and practice at home. The community is supported by having device at home, increasing communication with school and teachers.
Professional development has supported student-led, student-created work. This shows in our Teacher Technology Survey data!
