General Regulations for All Sports

    1. Schedules

      1. Schedules will attempt to be made to minimize travel and loss of instructional time

      2. Schedules will be made to best balance and provide equal representation for proper final league standings

    2. Exhibition Games and Tournaments

      1. The number of games that any one team can participate in over the course of a season is to be determined solely by the school

    3. Seasons of Play

      1. All sport divisional dates will correspond with the dates set at the zone level for those sports

      2. Volleyball - September to November

      3. Basketball - November to February

      4. Badminton - March & April

      5. Track & Field - May & June

    4. Days of Play

      1. Tier 1 League Games - Thursdays

      2. Tier 2 League Games - Wednesdays

      3. Alternate days of the week can/will be used during the final week of the regular season schedule to balance schedules and/or to determine wildcard representation in the Divisional Tournament

      4. Alternate days of the week can be used to reschedule games between schools when those dates and times are mutually agreed upon

    5. Game Times

      1. Games will start at 4:00 unless other mutual arrangements have been made between participating schools

      2. In the event that a team is late, a 15 minute grace period will be given. After which time, the game is forfeited and a shortened exhibition game will be played

      3. If a second game is scheduled in a gym that evening, the second game will start at 5:30 (5:15 for Tier 2 Basketball)

    6. Referees

      1. The host school will attempt to find the best possible referees available

      2. It is strongly suggested that one adult serve as head referee

      3. It is recommended that each school attempt to sponsor a brief Referees' Clinic prior to the start of the season

    7. Practices

      1. Practice for any sport except track may commence upon completion of the Divisional Tournament in the previous sport

        1. Notwithstanding this restriction, schools may organize informal fun leagues or clubs for which students who are not selected nor organized into school teams for play on an interschool basis

    8. Eligibility

      1. Age of participants will correspond with zone policies

      2. Due to the unique situation of Horizon School division, schools may use grade six and under students to complete a roster for league play

      3. Member schools are allowed to use males and females together to form a team if needed and desired in their specific situation

        1. Co-ed teams will compete in either of the Tier 1 Boys or Tier 2 Boys leagues

      4. If an athletic program is not being offered within a school, a student may participate in another school's program only with written approval from both school principals and/or designate prior to participation. Students, who wish to participate in another school's program, must initiate the process through their school's administrator

    9. League Composition

      1. Team sports within Horizon will be split into Boys and Girls, Tier 1 and Tier 2

      2. Tier 2 teams shall consist mainly of grade 6 and 7 students

      3. Tier 1 teams shall consist mainly of grade 8 and 9 students

      4. Players grade 8 or lower may be used on both Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams at the discretion of the member school

      5. Exceptions shall be discussed and voted on at the start of each team sports league play. (Eg: Use of gr.9’s in Tier 2 teams). And reflected in that current years policy for that particular sport

      6. Teams wishing to enter Zone Competition must declare Tier 1

      7. Member schools may enter more than one team in any league play

      8. Only teams participating in Horizon league play are eligible to participate in the Horizon Divisional Championships
