In Module Three we:
Learn how to: monitor trainees' progress across the setting.
All trainees have a Hope Teacher Portfolio. This portfolio allows them to reflect on their professional development and collate evidence against the Teachers’ Standards. As part of their weekly mentor meeting trainees should be completing their profile and collating evidence with their mentor.
Using E-Profile to monitor trainee progress and mentoring feedback.
E-Profile
This system enables you to record trainee development and progress over the course of the PGCE programme. It is central to the programme and provides an important source of evidence which demonstrates how trainees have met the Teachers’ Standards.
It is primarily the trainee’s responsibility to manage the profile but it must be heavily informed by contributions from mentors and tutors. It is to be expected that trainees will have different rates of progress and that a range of factors will determine the sequence in which the Teachers’ Standards are addressed.
By the end of the course all trainees must have shown that they have:
evidenced all of the Teachers’ Standards criteria
shown the level of competence required to achieve the recommendation of QTS.
Trainee performance will be tracked four times during the academic year, culminating in the final summative moderation. At each review point the trainee is judged to be making ‘Expected Progress’ (EP) or ‘Not Making Expected Progress’ (NEP); this is recorded on E-Profile, along with strengths and areas for further development. The trainee will grant access to those involved in mentoring and monitoring performance. A judgement is made against each of the Teachers’ Standards (2012); this is discussed at each of the review points with the mentor and trainee collaborating to create SMART targets to ensure a continuous, positive trajectory.
As PLC you will be able to review the progress of all of your trainees through the E-profile and conduct analysis as to their progress. This will also help you to identify where there are mentoring strengths and aspects that might need further development.
