Bob Spitzig

My name is Bob Spitzig and I am seeking your support for re-election to the Holy Spirit Catholic School Board.

My wife, Roisin, and I have been married for 26 years and have two wonderful daughters: Siobhan, 24, and Fiona, 22. I am employed as a Heavy-duty Mechanic at Charlton and Hill Welding. Roisin and I are both active in ministry in All Saints Parish in the music ministry at the Saturday evening Mass. I am also a Eucharistic Minister.

Our daughters had the opportunity to learn and grow within the Holy Spirit Catholic school system. It was during these years that I volunteered on Parent Council at St. Patrick’s Fine Arts and St. Paul’s Elementary Schools and at St. Francis Junior High School.

As I learned more about the challenges that face our education system, I felt called to become a Catholic Trustee and lend my experience and energy to meeting these challenges! Budget cuts, staffing cuts, and lack of realistic government support for education have caused many difficulties in our schools. As well, our Catholic school systems must justify their existence in a society that no longer sees the need for Christ-centered living and learning. These are a small portion of the challenges faced by our school systems!

I believe every child deserves the best education that we can provide. Catholic Trustees must continue to lobby the government to renew its commitment to excellent education in Alberta. I have no doubt that education in Alberta will continue to face many challenges in the years to come and Trustees will need to remain dedicated to the staff and students of their schools. Please keep all those who serve as Catholic Trustees in your prayers and support Catholic Education by voting on October 16!
