In Drama we explore, create, rehearse and refine dramatic works through collaborative and individual performance, and reflect on dramatic works and aesthetic experiences. We engage in a variety of learning opportunities such as Warm-Ups and Trust Activities, Self reflection, Improvisation, Scene Work & Characterization, and Film Study. At the Gr. 11/12 level we also do Script Writing & Analysis and One Act Productions.

Each year the Holy Cross Theatre Company puts on a production at the Surrey Arts Centre. For our 2021/22 school year we are pleased to be able to produce two shows: Little Women (December 2021) and Murder By Indecision (April 2022). Students can be involved in the extracurricular drama program on stage as a performer or behind the scenes as part of the stage crew. These experiences promote communication skills and teamwork, encourage imagination and creativity, and enable students to learn to trust their ideas and abilities. Over the past years, members of the Holy Cross Theatre Company have attended local theatre productions, participated in workshops with the Arts Club Theatre and welcomed guest speakers such as Jim Byrnes. The confidence students gain from theatre can benefit them in school, career, and life.
*The drama classes and extracurricular school play are two different things. You do not have to be registered in a drama class to audition for the Holy Cross Theatre Company production.

There are no prerequisites. Just an open mind, willingness to take risks, and a positive attitude
Students are expected to remain respectful to each other at all times, and to come to class prepared to take risks and challenge themselves. A positive and inclusive attitude is essential for success in the course, and a safe, encouraging atmosphere in the classroom makes taking those risks that much easier. We aim to encourage each other to make everyone's drama experience positive
