Physical Education Department Goals and Competencies

PE1 - The student applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to movement and performance.

LOWER SCHOOL

PE1-LSa. I apply Physical Education knowledge

    • Understands the movement concepts of speed, endurance, and pacing for running. [3-4]

    • Understands the concepts of direction, aim and force when directing an object toward a designated target. [3-4]

    • Explains their understanding of the benefit of being physically active. [3-4]

    • Understands the basics of offensive and defensive positioning in simple game situations. [3-4]

    • Understands movement concepts related to game strategies. [5-6]

    • Understands the concepts of direction, aim and force when directing An object toward a designated target in small game-like situations. [5-6]

PE1-LSb. I apply Physical Education strategies

    • Applies simple offensive strategies and tactics in chasing and fleeing activities. [3-4]

    • Applies simple defensive strategies and tactics in chasing and fleeing activities. [3-4]

    • Applies rules for safe tagging during chasing and fleeing activities. [3-4]

    • Demonstrates basic knowledge of offensive and defensive positioning of sport/activity for which they are participating.

PE1-MSb. I apply Physical Education strategies

    • Identifies situations to attempt to support/advance a teammate.

    • Identifies/reduces open spaces in the field by working with teammates to maximize coverage.

    • Varies the speed, force, and trajectory of the shot.

    • Varies strategy/execution of offensive play.

    • Works to execute the correct offensive and defensive strategy based on the game situation - i.e. time, score, etc.

    • Works to execute offensive tactics to create open space.

    • Reduces open space by not allowing the opponent to receive the object.

    • Develop/execute individual strategies that are suitable for their abilities to better their performance.

PE1-MSc. I demonstrate Physical Education tactics and movement

LOWER SCHOOL

    • Uses various loco-motor skills in a variety of small-sided drills and activities. [3-4]

    • Begins to demonstrate the principles of rotation to transfer weight in throwing and striking activities. [3-4]

    • Demonstrates age-appropriate technique using locomotor skills in dynamic small sided activities and games. [5-6]

    • Combines locomotor and manipulative skills in a variety of small-sided practice tasks/games environments. [5-6]
