Performing Arts Goals and Competencies
PA1 - COLLABORATION AND COMMUNITY
We understand, celebrate, and embrace the intrinsic nature of working as a community in the Performing Arts.
PA1-a. I can work with others to develop a unified ensemble.
PA1-b. I can incorporate the ideas of others.
PA1-c. I can provide encouragement and positive feedback.
PA1-d. I can accept and apply feedback from my teacher and peers in order to grow as a performer.
PA1-e. I can identify, seek out and embrace interdisciplinary performance opportunities.
PA2 - COURAGE
We stretch ourselves outside of our comfort zone, and open ourselves to risk taking and vulnerability through creation and sharing.
PA2-a. I can accept and offer constructive criticism.
PA2-b. I can reflect upon my contribution to the rehearsal process (both individually and as an ensemble) in order to improve.
PA2-c. I can perform independently and collaboratively with poise and confidence.
PA2-d. I can try new things with confidence knowing that it is okay to take risks, make mistakes and try again.
PA2-e. I can present creative ideas with confidence and accept with humility whether those ideas are incorporated, altered, or abandoned.
PA3 - CREATIVITY
We strive to generate and express original ideas and build confidence as innovators and artists.
PA3-a. I can use improvisation as a tool to develop new ideas.
PA3-b. I can apply feedback on my creative work to make revisions to enhance my performance.
PA3-c. I can develop and refine artistic techniques and skills.
PA3-d. I can use critical thinking to approach my artistic interpretation and expression.
PA3-e. I can use my knowledge and skills to create original works.
PA4 - COMMITMENT
We demonstrate dedication to the communal work and to our personal artistic growth through consistent effort, resilience, discipline, and persistence.
PA4-a. I recognize how my individual effort and preparation affects the overall effectiveness of the full ensemble and attempt to do my best in class and rehearsal.
PA4-b. I can assist in the ensemble’s success by being prepared and on time, attending rehearsals, and participating fully.
PA4-c. I can persevere through challenges and use what I have learned to grow as an artist.
PA4-d. I can embrace feedback from my teachers, peers and self to help myself grow as an artist.
PA4-e. I can commit to the process of trying new things with confidence, knowing that it is okay to take risks, make mistakes, and try again.
PA5 - CONNECTION AND CONTEXT
We use the arts as a means to build deeper connections to our community, our world, and the history of artistic expression.
PA5-a. I can relate artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural, and historical context to deepen my understanding.
PA5-b. I can use my knowledge of the Performing Arts to communicate who I am to others.
PA5-c. I can synthesize and relate knowledge and personal experiences to make art.
PA5-d. I can compare relationships between the Performing Arts and other disciplines.
PA6 - CORE FUNDAMENTALS
We become lifelong learners by practicing fundamental skills and applying knowledge to engage fully in our art form.
PA6-a. I can recognize the fundamental skills required to master my Performing Arts discipline.
PA6-b. I practice my artistic discipline regularly and consistently in the pursuit of mastery.
PA6-c. I can embrace other styles, techniques, disciplines and skills to help me become a well-rounded artist.
