The Planet Project

Who We Are:

Our group’s founders are composed of three high school students: Caroline Warner, Larissa Da Silva and Danny Marczewski. The tight bond we share is based off of our friendship since middle school. Composting, as well as keeping the community clean is an idea worked on by numerous citizen’s in the past; also, we hope to embody the idea of working towards humanity’s happier and healthier future. To do so, we plan on advancing our environmental movement across Massachusetts. Furthermore, we hope to deepen student’s understanding of the severity of this pollution crisis and how it will affect their futures. Not only will our group take action but we will also spread awareness.

Partnerships:

For our community partnership, we chose to partner with Mr. Marsh and the environmental club at Holliston High school. Mr. Marsh has helped us find ways to manage a compost pile at HHS, and along with help from the environmental club, we hope to make this a long term project.

What Are Purpose Is:

Environmental pollution is the hazardous alterations of our surroundings. The diverse classifications of pollution can be categorized as air, water, land, radioactive, noise, light or thermal. All of the various classifications of pollution are a byproduct of mankind’s actions. Our group wants to...

  • spread awareness

  • start composting at Holliston High School

  • get the community involved

Our Current Project(s):

We have been working with the principle of HHS, as well as partnered the cafeteria staff in hopes of setting up compost bins in the cafeteria as well as in the courtyard. We plan to have a compost pile near the dumpster outside the school.

How The Community Can Help:

Easy strategies for anyone to take to help the community combat the pollution crisis are:

  • Donate to charities like the Earth Day Network

  • Educate yourself about composting and the pollution crisis

  • Try composting at home or with others

  • Spread awareness amongst your family and friends

Outside Resources:

Mr. Marsh, a teacher at HHS, kindly assisted us with our project. He provided us with resources on composting that holds information on how composting affects the environment, what we would need to compost and how to maintain the composting pile. Thanks to him we are more educated about composting and how to set it up at Holliston High School.
