Our plan is to go around the town of Holliston and collect trash that is on the side of the road and in the town parks. We also plan to add a trash barrel to the rail trail. We know that trash is getting into oceans and all around the community, so we want to help make the world and the oceans a cleaner place. We began picking up trash on November 14 at Goodwill Park and one part of the Rail Trail. On November 22 we collected trash at Stoddard Park. On November 27 we will pick up trash at the Holliston High School. Our next step is to purchase or get donated a trash barrel. We plan to put the barrel in Blaire Square right off the rail trail!

Project Goals - Our goals are to make our community a better and cleaner place and keep the animals and little children safe from any litter and trash. We want to reduce the amount of the trash in the lakes and oceans because animals tend to eat that trash thinking it is food, but end up getting sick and dying from not being safe. Young children also tend to pick up anything they can find and put it in their mouths. We don’t want any children to get sick or injured from putting something dangerous they find on the ground into their mouths.
Progress - On Saturday November 14 we cleaned up Goodwill Park and one section of the rail trail. We collected one and half bags of trash .. which is crazy! On Sunday November 22 we picked up trash at Stoddard Park. We collected one full bag of trash!
Our first time picking up trash on 11/14! 1.5 bags of trash!
Before and after of the Good Will Basketball court!
Our second time picking up trash on 11/22! 1 bag of trash!
Before and after of the Patoma Park baseball field!
Town Partnerships:
Robert Weidknecht
He is a part of the trails committee for the Holliston Rail Trail
We have a zoom conference with him discussing our project and what we would need from the town to achieve our goal
He also gave us Tina Hein and Travis Aherns contact information
Tina Hein
She is on the Select Board for Holliston
She emailed us a link to their conference from November 16 so we could hear what the town had to say about trash pickup in Blaire Square and learn more about what we would need to do
Travis Ahern
He is the Town Administrator
He helped us get into the Select Board meeting to present our project
Donna Muzzy
She helped us get in contact with Mr. Weidknecht
We were able to discuss our project with the select board members and were able to get approval for our ideas!
Here is a picture of us with our new trash can in Blair Square!
In this picture you can see the trash can and next to it is a dog waste bin! Remember to put trash and dog waste in their own separate bin!
