Located in Room 102 Mason Hall, as well as online and in the Fried Center (walk-in only), the Writing Center offers free and confidential one-to-one tutoring for all Hofstra students with tutors trained in collaborative learning and through class visits and workshops. Our staff of undergraduate, graduate, and faculty tutors work with writers of all experience levels, learning styles, and linguistic backgrounds. Writers from all disciplines can use our services for course-based or personal/professional needs. In addition to helping students revise their writing effectively, we support students' growth and confidence as writers.
One-to-one consultations: Tutors engage students in collaborative, conversation-based sessions.
Focus on process: We emphasize the full writing process — brainstorming, drafting, research, revising — not just fixing grammar.
Tailored support: We work with students across disciplines on a variety of writing tasks, from research papers to personal statements.
