Puzzle Piece One: The Main Event
Historical events, big or small, can have an important impact on that time period and the future. As you really start your NHD research over the next couple of weeks, you need to focus in on what special event took place involving your topic, and make sure the event will relate to the theme. Although your eventual project will be much more than this, we must make sure your topic works. This is the point in which you center your research to one moment in time.
Your assignment is to write several sentences on the main event of your project and prove the event took place. This answer must do these five mandatory things...
1) Describe ONE EVENT in history. ONE MOMENT IN HISTORY is only a couple of sentences. Get to the point unless you plan on doing a paper or skit.
Please tell about one event in time by explaining the WHO or WHAT, When and WHERE
Do not tell us about the entire WWII, but instead describe one influential battle, moment in time or event that shows this year's theme.
Do not tell us about Dr Martin Luther King Jr's entire life, but research the " I have a dream speech"
Get the picture? Even if there is a lot to your topic, narrow it down now and then expand later.
In this section think of 4 of the 5 W's - Who or what did it involve? when did it happen? Where did it happen?
2) Give a clear explanation that shows how this ONE EVENT showed a Turning Points in History
. How does it relate to the theme? This is the why or how of the 5 w's.
This does not need to be a separate sentence but should flow into your story that you made in part one.
You only need Turning Points in History
.. on this part.
DON"T WRITE THE My turning point OF MY TOPIC IS OR THE MAIN EVENT OF MY TOPIC IS, instead tell a story
3) Prove your event truly happened- IF YOU SAY IT PROVE IT
Add two or more primary sources: picture or quote to go along with the paragraph(Pictures, quotes, video of the actual event). Possible secondary sources: charts or pictures.
4) Back up your information and give credit where credit is due
Have at least two citations that you copy and paste on the bottom of the page. One source could be the site you gained the information about your paragraph and a second should be a primary source to prove it happened. Know it is time to annotate your sources.
Make you citations in Noodletool and then copy them to this cite.
One Noodletools project per group
5) Make it exhibit, website, paper, or documentary ready- SKIT not really
You should be able to take the information you have and place it directly onto a project. Skits will need to add a little flare to it. Papers should explain the event in a little more detailed. Make sure sentences are complete and you grammar is perfect.
Remember to keep it that short. It should be no more than 3-10 sentences. But after reading the couple of sentences I should understand the main idea and the relationship to the theme. So, choose your words and sentences carefully so that you don't ramble on and give too much information, or make your paragraph too long.
Be sure to use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation. Make sure this paragraph is written in your own words as well.
USE the document I shared with you on google classroom called Puzzle Piece 1.
You will give a short presentation to the class on the due date. You'll be asked to summarize your ONE EVENT and for Turning Points in History
. for the class.
This is worth a full project grade. The grading rubric can be found on the back of this sheet, and online.
