NHD Parent Contract Form
2021-22 NHD Annual Theme Sheet: Debate and Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failures, and Consequences
Individual/Group Contract (Maximum of 3 students unless they do a skit)
Narrow Topic Idea ______________________________________________________
Date Project Is Estimated Due Date : TBA
This contract is due is due Oct 9(8th) and Oct 9th (7th)
National History day is a very large part of the student’s grade in the first and mainly the second trimester. Students will do the majority of research in November. We would like students to have a solid idea of the direction of their project at that time. Students must choose how they will complete their project and their topic by Oct 7(8th) and Oct 8th (7th) . This choice includes individual or group and topic choice. If struggling with ideas please come and see Mr. Cirillo.
Individuals: I will complete an individual entry in National History Day. I understand that along with the freedom and independence of an individual entry, I will have to complete all aspects of the entry on my own without help from other students. NHD student guidebook can be found here for more information. Basically, if you want a challenge, are a solid independent learner, and don't want to rely on others this is the path for you.
Groups: Students who wish to work in groups must have the contract signed by all students and parents/guardians involved agreeing that they may work with all parties in the group. Once formed, the group will receive a blanket grade for the entry. No allowances will be made if one member does not participate fully. Choose your group carefully. The group agrees to share equally in all work and in all expenses. Money may not be spent unless all members are consulted. All prize monies will be split evenly among the students. We agree to work together to complete our National History Day entry. I will allow anyone to work with anyone, but won’t accept later complaints about partners. It is up to the child to make a good decision. Groups can work great only if the kids work great together and are willing to share the effort and work.
Topics: Choose your topic wisely. Everyone has different interest and you will want a topic that fits your interest. You also need a topic that fits the theme, has a good amount of primary and secondary sources, and is a part of history (over 17 years old). Topics should be narrowed down to an event in history. From that event you can expand and elaborate on your topic to help fill up your board or project. More on this yearstheme can be found in NHD theme page..

Dear 7th and 8th Grade Parents,
I hope this letter finds you well. Your child has volunteered for the National History Day project. To ensure a smooth and successful experience, we would like to provide you with some important updates and reminders:
Key Dates Document:
We urge you to review the Key Dates document associated with the National History Day project. This document outlines crucial timelines and milestones that will guide your child through the various stages of the project. Staying informed about these dates will help your child meet project requirements and milestones effectively.
Rules for category and NHD
This week students will look at rules and regulations for NHD. The information for this can be found at https://sites.google.com/hhasd.org/national-history-day/rules-and-categories
Exhibit Boards:
Participants opting for an exhibit are required to purchase their own display boards. These boards can be obtained from any store, but we recommend considering options available at Boxman Inc. But you can buy a board or make any design you want as long as it fits the rules.
Regional Contest Details:
The Regional Contest is scheduled to take place at Concordia University on February 24, 2024. Please mark this date on your calendar as it is a significant event in your child's National History Day journey. These events are optional, but a great experience.
State Event Information:
The State Event will be held at UW Madison on April 20th.
Registration Information:
After the Christmas Break, we will be sending out detailed registration information for both the Regional Contest and the State Event. Please be on the lookout for this important communication.
Final Rough Draft Submission:
A final rough draft from the students will be due after break. For 7th graders, we aim to receive this draft during the week of January 24th, and for 8th graders, by January 31st. This will allow ample time for feedback and refinement before the submission deadlines. Please do not glue on boards at this time as information may need to be moved around.
Thank you for your continued support throughout this exciting National History Day project. I am looking forward to witnessing the growth and achievements of your child.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
Best regards,
Mr. Cirillo
