Successful History Day

Gathering of Information

1. Research First- If you know it already it is not research.

Read about your topic- min 20 pages – Read at least two secondary sources

2. Understand your topic before you decide how you are going to present

3. Decide what is your point?

4. Back up your words with primary sources.- If you can not back it up don’t put it in your project.

5. Site everything as you go. If you gain knowledge write where you got the knowledge from.

Putting it together

1. Organize your information and decide what would be the best format.

2. Story, Story, Story. Historians tell stories and you should place your final form in story form .


These two lessons will be the start of the real beef of your history day project. You have the books and now it is time to read.
