Reading

"To the child who reads by flashlight, who sees dragons in the clouds, who feels most alive in worlds that never were, who knows magic is real, who dreams...This is for you."

On this page, you will find stories being read by your teachers as well as other book-related pleasures and your weekly reading tasks! Enjoy(:

This Week's Reading Tasks

This week's main reading tasks are on myON - if you haven't already logged onto myON, please do so. If you don't have a username or password, please email the homelearninghelp email address.

Our reading tasks this week have a focus on animals. Now you are the proud sponsors of some amazing animals yourselves, we thought this would be appropriate! On this page you will find some Reading Comprehensions - the texts discuss different types of animals and there are some questions to answer. The answers are there for you too!

The task this week is firstly to read the text Pets on Vacation - a lovely Summer read!

Having read the story, we are asking you to create a Character Map - which characters appear in the story? Can you describe the characters using a range of adjectives?

Your final task is to then write about your own Summer holiday adventures! What adventures will you go on? Which places will you visit? What will you see? Who will you meet? You can either write as you (wonderful you!) or a pet or animal. The choice is yours.

All the tasks are on myON and your teachers can track your progress through the tasks online. If you have any questions at all, please just email homelearninghelp.

Perhaps you could now find out how to look after and care for a Lemur or a Meetkat (whichever animal your class has sponsored!) Could you write an Information Booklet about how to take care of these animals? Maybe you would like to come up with some questions to ask a family member or a friend?

Reading with your child - for adults

Read through the resources first (see below). Next, use the information when reading with your child.

These resources aim to support your Year 3 child's reading comprehension skills, using tailored reading questions and a roll and respond reading dice! Have a go at using these resources this week when reading with your child.

Your child should read daily (5 times a week) for around 20 minutes. This might include your child reading independently, reading aloud to an adult or sibling, or hearing someone read to them. Asking questions throughout the reading will help enhance the reading experience and enable your child to think more deeply and access life-long reading comprehension skills.

Remember to ask your child to quiz on Accelerated Reader and to fill out the Book Review Form or review their book on Flipgrid.
