We are HFE. We are HERE. We are FAMILY. We are EXCEPTIONAL.
Georgia 4-H provides experiences for young people to learn by doing. 4-H’ers complete hands-on projects in our focus areas of Agriculture and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), Healthy Living, and Civic Engagement in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Youth experience 4-H in every county of the state through in-school and after-school programs, school and community clubs, project work, and 4-H camps.
4-H is the nation’s largest youth leadership development organization empowering nearly six million young people across the U.S. with the skills to lead for a lifetime and Georgia is proud to be one of the largest state programs in the country with more than 240,000 active 4-H’ers across the state.
The four H’s symbolize the development of the HEAD (to think, plan and reason), the HEART (to be concerned with the welfare of others, accept the responsibility of citizenship and develop positive attitudes), the HANDS (to be useful, helpful and skillful) and HEALTH (to practice healthy living, enjoy life and use time wisely). 4-H is a major partner in education. Lessons taught, experiences shared and information presented in 4-H is based on the research of the University of Georgia and Fort Valley State University
Our monthly classroom club meetings are the core of 4-H programming and provide our students leadership experiences, hands-on learning, and chances to explore areas of interest. Young people engage in group activities that promote personal development, healthy lifestyles, a sense of citizenship, and character education. 4-H faculty and staff partner with HFE 5th grade teachers through in-school club delivery and encourage and promote the Georgia Standards of Excellence.
The 4-H Project Achievement is a MANDATORY project required for all 5th grade students. The students will receive an ELA grade for this project in the areas of speaking / listening / presentations / research.
