Henry County Schools developed a partnership with Mindset several years ago. For the school year 2022/2023, all Mental Health and Wellness Facilitators were trained to be trainers for the de-escalation portion of Mindset. The facilitators then trained their schools in 2 sessions. The first is a 90 minute session with the groundwork. The second is a sign off of each of the staff members to be sure they understand the foundation of the Mindset training, and can comfortably perform the 4-Step Counseling Model.

FAQs
What do I do if I have staff that have taken the whole Mindset training through the county? Do they have to attend? The answer is yes. The Mental Health and Wellness Facilitators are providing the foundations for Mindset for the district at this point. Staff members will need to complete the foundations at their school before they can complete the restraint training with the district trainers.
What if I have a staff member that wants to complete the restraint training? They will need to complete the foundations with you. Then they will need to get principal approval. After principal approval, they will schedule for a class under PDExpress.
Can I do both sessions on the same day? The initial training is 90 minutes. You would need your staff members to commit to staying at least another hour after that for you to personally see and sign off on their demonstration of the 4-Step Counseling Model. It can be done, but it is recommended these sessions are broken up for the sake of time.
Can someone else sign off on the skills demonstration? The only other people that can sign off on a skills demonstration are another Mental Health and Wellness Facilitator or a Wellness Specialist. If you want to coordinate for another facilitator or specialist to come to your school to help you sign off, you must make sure you have permission from both principals.
Can I team up with another Facilitator to deliver the 1st session? YES! Having another person to help you get through the material can be a great benefit to you. Just be sure to get approval from both your principal and the other facilitator's principal in advance.
How far apart do the 2 trainings need to be? They should be relatively close together so that staff members retain the information you are presenting. Some facilitators have presented Session 1 during a staff meeting, then spent the next week during planning or grade level sessions doing skills testing, and that has worked well. Work with your principal to make the best plan for your building.
Do I have to do the trainings? YES! These trainings are a requirement of Henry County Schools. If you need assistance, please reach other to fellow facilitators or the Wellness Specialists.
