J. R. Tucker's MCJROTC Cadets
The program has 154 cadets and allows cadets to lead it. Every year, 30 cadets are selected to run the program. If you are looking for leadership skills, this is where you find them. In the picture, the cadets in the dress uniforms are in their second, third, and fourth year, and the cadets in the camouflage uniforms are in their first year.
Why JROTC
The JRT MCJROTC assists students in building an extremely competitive resume that will help them achieve their goals after high school.
Through leadership, character, and citizenship development, cadets receive the "life-skills" necessary to be successful both during high school and after, be it enlistment, employment, education, or some combination of what Henrico County Public Schools refers to as the "Three E's."
Program goals:
Develop leadership and build character.
Create informed, patriotic, and responsible citizens.
Develop responsible young adults who are physically, mentally, and morally fit.
Develop informed and civic-minded young adults prepared for higher education, civilian careers, and public service.
Instill self-discipline, respect, and responsibility through military-related subjects and activities.
We also offer cadets the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than themselves. Cadets represent the U.S. Marine Corps, Marine Corps JROTC, and J.R. Tucker High School. We like to think of our 150+ cadets as a big extended family – a place for everyone.
Our program has numerous teams to join or events and activities to be involved with. Examples include but are not limited to: competing as a member of our Marine Corps JROTC national championship winning Academic Team, our Drill Team, our Marksmanship Team (air rifles), our Motivation Team, and our Physical Training Team, or participating in our Marine Corps birthday and Veterans Day ceremonies, community service events, leadership camps, and field trips to various locations.
Please visit the Why JROTC and the Outside of the Classroom page to learn more about the many additional opportunities available.

Please Participate In Our Fundraisers
Every year, the JROTC program aims to provide engaging instruction and life skills to assist the cadets in succeeding after high school. Providing content that keeps the cadets' attention and allows them to do things outside of the classroom requires money the program doesn't have, which is why we need financial assistance.
Holiday Fun Walk/Run
Join us at our 2nd Annual Holiday Fun Walk/Run at the Virginia War Memorial on Saturday, December 7th, 2024.

Congratulations to 1st Platoon for Winning the Platoon of the Year Competition
The Platoon of the Year Competition is a year-long competition held by the MCJROTC Program. Four platoons consisting of roughly 40 cadets each compete against each other in various categories to earn points for their respective platoon. Cadets may earn points for their platoons by earning good grades, participating in community service events, attending JROTC field trips, joining a JROTC team (Drill, Color Guard, Academic, Marksmanship, or Moto), getting promoted, and becoming a Cadet of the Marking Period. Cadets may lose points or earn no points for their platoon if they have multiple absences, behavioral issues, or poor grades. The Platoon of the Year Field Meet is an event that occurs at the end of March to give platoons a final chance to earn points for the competition. Platoons create teams of cadets to compete against each other in an Academic quiz, a marksmanship competition (shooting 10 scored targets in the prone position), a Physical Fitness Test (consisting of pull-ups, push-ups, crunches, and a timed one-mile run), a Drill competition (completing a drill card), and finally, a Tug of War competition.
This year, First Platoon, led by Cadet Second Lieutenant Joshua John and Cadet Staff Sergeant Muhammad Ali earned the title of “Platoon of the Year” by earning a whopping 2361 points! Great job, First Platoon cadets!
