Platoon of the Year Competition Description and Results

The Platoon of the Year Competition is a year-long competition held by the MCJROTC Program. Four platoons consisting of roughly 40 cadets each compete against each other in various categories to earn points for their respective platoon. Cadets may earn points for their platoons by earning good grades, participating in community service events, attending JROTC field trips, joining a JROTC team (Drill, Color Guard, Academic, Marksmanship, or Moto), getting promoted, and becoming a Cadet of the Marking Period. Cadets may lose points or earn no points for their platoon if they have multiple absences, behavioral issues, or poor grades. The Platoon of the Year Field Meet is an event that occurs mid to late March to give platoons a final chance to earn points for the competition. Platoons create teams of cadets to compete against each other in a 25-point Academic quiz (based on MCJROTC Level I questions), a Marksmanship competition (shooting 10 scored targets in the prone position), a Physical Fitness Test (consisting of pull-ups, push-ups, crunches, and a timed one-mile run), a Drill competition (completing a drill card), and finally, a Tug of War competition.
