Senior Carpentry finished the year strong with Andre' Wyatt participating in signing day on to work for Johnny on the Spot. The senior class gathered for one last class picture before they begin their new adventures. This class weathered virtual learning their first year and came back strong for a strong senior year. Congratulations to everyone for great year!
The Electricity II Students finished up the Trim Out on the house building project and received our Final Electrical Inspection!!!!
Electricity I Students finished up their NCCER Core Certification Testing as well and earned ANOTHER certification to add to their resume!
Carpentry students completed interior trim, cabinets, and have completed work on the deck flooring system and stairs. Electricity students completed the electrical trim out this week as well!
Masonry students visited Masononmics at one of their commercial sites and got to pour grout on site.
Carpentry Students completed the Home for Good Playhouse for CASA and attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at Short Pump Towne Center. The playhouse is on display until May 8 when it will be delivered to some lucky youngster.

Electricity 2 students have been hard at working finalizing their house work with fixtures, outlets and covers. This house should be ready for the market in late spring/early summer!
Racardo Robinson, competed in the Virginia SkillsUSA Masonry State Competition in Virginia Beach and placed in the top 10 for the entire state!
Carpentry Students have transitioned from the house project to building a castle style child's playhouse for CASA. Showcasing at the Rodeo and now being finished back the Ace Center. The finished playhouse will be raffled off at Short Pump Towne Center in May.
Our 2nd Year Students worked hard to showcase their skills to prospective employers at the 2nd Annual Henrico Career Rodeo. ALL of our students had at least one Contractor offer them a Career upon completion of High School!!!!
Eagle construction partnered with HCVTEF to provide a 3D scan for the House 19 Project site. The technology uses X-ray and infrared scanning to Create a 3D model of the house. It can be used to quickly locate mechanical features within the home's walls to expedite any required future repairs.

Electricity I class had a mock competition with students from Hermitage and AVR this week and learned to tie neck ties because they wanted to look sharp!
Electricity II students continue to work on earning their certification and have begun polishing their electrical skills for the upcoming Rodeo; however, they were still able to let their hair down and have some fun as they dressed up like their Instructor, Mr. Cline for "Twin Day"
This past week Carpentry II students competed in a inhouse Skills USA contest. Teams of 2 work closely together to create planters that will be placed outside of the Tech Center. Also, students began installing the trim work at the House Project.

1st year students learned about GFCI receptacles, why they are necessary and where they are required per the National Electric Code. 2nd year students continue to make up missing testing Modules in the NCCER to complete their certification. Currently, just under 3/4 of our 2nd year students have passed their Core Certification already and are eligible to go out to work!
Year one masonry students have continued learning how to lay cinder block to a line to help ensure straight rows and walls. They have also been practicing ways to lay brick in a wall in order to create different designs.
Carpentry Students are nearly finished hanging drywall at the House Project. We expect to finish the Sheetrock after winter break and start installing interior trim.
Carpentry students have completed the drywall work at the house project. They also built and installed a murphy shelf for an interior wall. Sheetrock finishers will be in this upcoming week. Trim package is on site and cabinets should be ready for installation at the end of the month. Hermitage ACE center will be coming out next to work on landscaping.
Mr. Harrison and our 1st year students went to Central Office to put up the Christmas Tree! Always a special event watching the students get into the Holiday spirit and seeing all of the fine citizens of Henrico County coming in and looking at the tree as the students are working!

Our carpentry students have been hard at work learning how to hang drywall at our Neale St. House. The goal is to have drywall completed before winter break. Next it will be time for cabinets and fixtures to be installed!
Masonry students have been working hard at the house learning how to set up and build piers to support the deck for the back porch. Lots of progress has been made!!!
With it being a short week, we worked on getting our students closer to their NCCER Certification. Both classes tested on their respective Modules to achieve this. In addition:
1st year students worked in their booths, learning various skills, such as wiring receptacles, switches and light fixtures!
2nd Year students continued to test in the Core book Modules to be able to get out to work in the 2nd semester. Pictured to the left...our students are encouraged to be themselves and to express their creativity. One of students dressed up for Halloween, but was still doing his warm up activity, which demonstrates his work ethic and ability to both get the job done and to be able to have a little fun doing it!
Overall these classes are excelling and we will continue to "Take it Higher"!!
With Rough-In Inspections PASSED, work continues at House 19 to get ready for Carpentry students to come back out to the house. Electricity students got to walk with the inspector to learn about the inspection process. Spray insulation and grading was underway this past week.

Electricity I students are finishing up with CareerSafe to earn their OSHA Credentials. This has allowed them to put their newly acquired skills into practice, as they have transitioned into the booths, located in the lab! Here they are wiring their 1st receptacle!!

At House 19, we are in the process of completing the final stages of the HVAC unit this week. Electricity 2nd year students will be coming out the following week to finish the work they started last spring and then we are ready for our 1st Inspection! Rough grading has begun outside of the house and ACE@Hermitage has been working on the landscape plan.
Masonry students learned how to spread mortar using a masonry trowel. Then they laid a course of brick and used a masonry level to level the course. As the year progress, students will become more efficient with the Masonry level. That will enable them to build various structures and sharpen their skills as a mason.
Students learned about personal protective equipment (PPE) for construction and were issued their own personal safety glasses, hardhat, and toolbelts.
Students learned about electron transfer and how the build up of electrons can be used to generate Electricity by using the Van de Graaf generator. With this teaching aid, students were able to simulate how lightning works, as well as see how electricity can flow throughout one's body without being harmed. This enables the student to essentially become a "bird on a wire" without the threat of bodily harm, even though volts of electricity are present!
Carpentry I and II students have been busy building picnic tables for County Elementary Schools. Each table is built in sections and will be assembled onsite.
Carpentry II students patience finally paid off as they were able to return to the house project and begin hanging sheetrock this week. Carpentry l students are working on Workplace Readiness and will join in once that is complete. Hopefully all of the walls will be complete before month's end.
