This week was all about the Rodeo In HVAC. Students were super excited to show off some of the skills they have learned. From brazing to air conditioner cleaning and maintenance, this was great event.
Students in both CAD 1 and CAD 2 competed in district SkillsUSA competitions for the Technical Drafting, Architectural Drafting, and 3D Visualization and Animation competitions. Students will find out if they advance to the state conference this Tuesday, January 20th, at the District awards ceremony held at the ACE Center at Hermitage. Our SkillsUSA State Officers, along with Mrs. Evans, had the distinguished opportunity to represent SkillsUSA Virginia in the inaugural parade for Governor Spanberger this weekend!
Electricity is learning how to light the paths of the our future, one switch at a time!
First year students are preparing for their exam as they continue to learn new skills in their booths, such as wiring switches and light fixtures. Second year students are preparing to earn their careers at the CTE Rodeo and have been working hard and diligently on wiring the 2nd floor of the ACE Center at Hermitage!
Carpentry students have both been working consistently on the floor system on the latest house building project. As we continue the to finish the floor system we will then begin the wall systems.
Masonry students are wrapping up one side of House #21 and getting ready to move to the front.
Another busy week has flown by in HVAC. This week our school hosted elementary school students. HVAC students led tours and participated in showing the elementary students some basics of HVAC.
CAD 1 students took their workplace readiness certification exams this week and crushed it! Students in CAD 2 attended the Historic Trades Expo that took place at the ACE center. They had the chance to learn from professionals about careers and materials used to keep the historic nature of buildings!
Electricity I students have made their way into the booths and started putting together what they have been learning in the 1st nine weeks. They have learned how to wire receptacles and are currently working on learning how to wire a single pole switch!
Electricity II Students have started the Hermitage project, in which we are wiring the ENTIRE 2nd floor of the Ace Center at Hermitage. This is a HUGE project that the students are working on, learning how to wire and install electrical wires and devices in a commercial electrical environment.
Carpentry II students are hard at work setting up the sill plate at our House Project. Next up, they will be laying out the floor joists.
Carpentry I students have been doing Roof Training, where they use miter saws, circular saws, jig saws, and hammers. They are learning how to construct a roof, set up the ridge board, and make the appropriate cuts (plumb cut, birds mouth, eve cut/over hang).
Masonry II students have been hard at work at the house the past few weeks. We just finished our first corner and begun moving scaffolding to stage for the next step.
Never a dull moment in HVAC. This week both Day 1 and Day 2 classes completed their mock interviews with real business partners from the community. Day 1 have been learning to work with copper piping, learning to cut, braze, bend, flare, and swedge. Day 2 have been working on their electrical control circuit project and evaluating different HVAC systems in the lab.
CAD I students have been busy practicing their AutoCAD drawing, orthographic, and dimensioning skills. They also won the Day 1 fantasy mascot challenge by creating a robot mascot for the school that encompassed every program offered at the ACE Center.
CAD II students have been working on interpreting engineering drawings and section views. Our two SkillsUSA Virginia state officers attended the WLTI (Washington Leadership Training Institute) in D.C. to advocate for CTE and Perkins funding on Capitol Hill, and even earned their national SkillsUSA statesman award!
Electricity I students have been learning about safety and are almost finished earning their 10 hour OSHA Card, which is a huge step in getting them ready for the working world!
Electricity II students have been busy learning about trouble-shooting and complex circuitry, all the while continuing to hone their skills using hand and power tools by building their booths in the new lab area!
Day 1 Carpentry students have been learning about safety, and practicing using the miter, circular and saber saw! Day 2 Carpentry students have been practicing demoing old roof materials.
Masonry Day 1 students have been learning how to lay mortart properly when completing a row of brick for a wall. They are preparing to head to the House Project soon to complete the brick walls.
HVAC 1 students have started their construction education strong by earning OSHA cards and learning plenty of other safety practices, like building scaffolding together!
HVAC 2 students have started fast. Practicing lab safety and getting hands on lab time working with real HVAC equipment and components!
The CAD 1 and 2 students have started the year off strong and are excited to learn! CAD I students are learning about the line types used in technical drawings and orthographic representations.
CAD II students have been busy researching and making plans for their futures after graduation. They are preparing for college applications, scholarships, trade schools, and the military!
The Electricity students have started off strong and eager to learn! Electricity I students are learning about Basic Construction Math, Construction Safety, Workplace Readiness and will start earning their OSHA cards in a couple of weeks!
Electricity II students have been busy using their construction skills to help build out our new Electrical Lab in the Oak Complex. The Electricity Team is excited to have students back in the building and learning skills that will last a lifetime!
