The National Theatre School (NTS) drama festival is finally back! After years off due to Covid-19, the drama department has been working hard on their take on “Layers” for regionals. Casting began back in October, with a multitude of drama enthusiasts excited to audition as well to help with set, costumes, props, etc.
Over the past months, these students, with much help from Mrs. Goncalves and Mr. Houston, put in hours of dedication to perform this production. The process was gruelling; every actor and cast member put in 100% of their effort the entire time.
The script focused on mind play. It made the audience think about the structure, and wonder about where each character belonged. This made it difficult for the cast to fully capture and understand their characters, but the performers did an outstanding job.

After months of preparation, dedication, and lots of coffee, the cast and crew set off to Burlington Central High School to perform and compete on March 30th. It was a long day, with two performances beginning at 8am and their night ending after 11pm.
The following Saturday, April 1st, the students participated in workshops to help advance their theater skills. Afterwards, there was a banquet for all cast and crew members to participate in, followed by awards.
Blakelock came home with a stage manager award for Maddy Brons, directing and choreography award for Jessica DeMelo, Ava Puhlmann, Ashvira Mangat-Mattoo, Vanessa Vamvakaris, and Carly Montgomery, and a costume award for Jay Tennant, Alison Semple, Shae Soeterik.

"Layers” was an extremely successful and memorable play. The experience was unforgettable for everyone, which will hopefully be repeated with familiar and new students next year!
