The season began December 1st and spans throughout the winter season. The Bantam team consists solely of grade 9s, giving the athletes a chance to develop their skills on an even playing field, while receiving even more opportunities and experiences.
This year, Blakelock’s Bantam team has played a total six basketball games and is set to resume the season after the winter break. The players have been focused on improving their skills and communication as a team, in order to set themselves up for success. Currently, they are striving towards their first win and are on track to accomplish this goal. All team members and their coach, Mr. Leckie, are confident that they have the ability to meet this objective through dedication and team effort.
In addition, Blakelock’s student body has been coming out to these games to show support for the team and the players. One spectator, Saisha Ramwani, commented on the December 7th game against Nelson.
“It was a high intensity game, with lots of enthusiasm from the stands. The constant support and encouragement seemed to give a boost of confidence to all the players on the court.”
Students from all grades and classes were able to watch the first few matches and cheer on their peers. The amount of support the team has received is extremely encouraging, and not only benefits the players, but the whole school community.
Along with this encouragement, the Tigers are set for their first win in the upcoming weeks. We’re sending them good luck and inspiration for their upcoming matches!
We are glad that the Boys' Bantam Basketball season has begun.
