Congratulations on finishing semester one and exam season Tigers! For many TAB students, these were their first real high school exams, which likely introduced new stresses and anxiety. During times like these, it is crucial that you take some time to focus on yourself and your well-being.
The most important aspect of Mental Health Awareness is making an effort to break the stigma surrounding the topic. In order for all of us to be fulfilled and at peace, we as a community must make an effort to create safe spaces where all of us may express our emotions freely. So, reach out to that friend you know is struggling. Make an effort to check up on those around you - a little can go a long way. And most importantly, take care of yourself.
Self care looks different for everyone, but overall, it is about taking the time to fill your heart and mind with things that bring you joy, happiness, and fulfillment. This can involve doing things like your favorite hobby, spending time outdoors, playing your favorite sport, or surrounding yourself with people that make you genuinely happy.
With second semester kickstarting, you will be met with new challenges and tasks. If you find yourself getting stressed out or on the cusp of burning out, remember that it is okay to take a step back. Breaks are important, and indulging in activities or hobbies that bring you joy are crucial. A ‘work and play’ balance is necessary and ultimately the key to reaching one’s full potential.
If you are struggling, it is helpful to speak to someone you trust; whether that is a parent, guardian, friend, guidance counsellor, or therapist. Linked below are a few mental health resources, which are also accessible through the TABloid website in ‘Resources.’ The Halton District School Board provides mental health support too - you may find these in the HDSB webpage linked below. Remember, you are not alone.
