Maddie has been a part of Blakelock’s custodial staff for the past eight years and has been a huge part of the development of the school community; she has a positive influence on everyone she meets and makes sure that everyone at Blakelock feels welcome and safe.
Maddie told the TABloid that her experience here at Blakelock has been a great one. Her favourite part of working at the school has been interacting with the students that she meets, as well as everyone in the CPP program who have treated her with so much respect and love over the years.
Maddie really enjoys meeting and connecting with new students each year. In fact, one of her favourite memories of working at Blakelock has been the students that return to the school to visit her. She stated that “every one of the kids always remembers [her] and treats [her] with kindness - like [she’s] their grandmother.”
During the interview, Maddie also offered some great advice to future Blakelock caretakers: “Get your rest,” she says, “You never know what to expect - remember to always be personable with the kids so they can make your job easier. If you respect them, they’ll respect you back.”
The entire Blakelock community is very sad to say goodbye to Maddie as she retires next December. She will be deeply missed, but she is also excited to see what the future has in store for her. Blakelock thanks you for all your hardwork and kindness, Maddie.
