Final Music Concert!
On May 25th at 7:00pm, Blakelock hosted its 2022/2023 Final Music Concert. The event took place in the large gym where parents, guardians, staff, and more gathered to listen to the students perform.
Caleb Dmytruk-Wilson, Symphonic Winds, Vocal Ensemble, Ninth Credit Class, TL Sutherland and Melody Fanaian, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Wind Ensemble and, Wind Ensemble & Friends all showcased their musical talent.
Though there were no tickets; instead, donations were welcomed whether on school cash online or at the front door. The donations given will be put towards the music program for more instruments, guest conductors, trips, and performance. Efforts from Ms. Abbott and Mrs. Barry helped to make this concert a successful Blakelock spectacle.
The ensemble presented several pieces including Jazz Etude 42, Victory in Defeat, Rider of the Mountain, For Good, Blackbird, Escaping the Sun, A Game of Cat and Mouse, The Blues Brothers Rockin’ Soul Revue, Sonata for Flute and Piano, Mother of a Revolution, The Sun will Still Rise.
Students from grades 9-12 were included, therefore it was a first concert for some, and a last concert for others as students of the Blakelock community. Not only was this concert presented by current students but over 50 alumni returned in order to perform once again.
A piece originally intended to be performed during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, called El Camino Royale, finally made its debut. A former Blakelock student, Megan Hartman, commissioned a piece in memory of the two TAB teachers, Ms. Donatelli and Mr. Shanks, who passed in the 2021/2022 school year. This beautiful orchestration was also to commemorate the difficult times during the pandemic.
efore Ninth-Credit Music Band performed, Ms. Abbott, the conductor of the band, played a short clip of a video from the beginning of the year, which showcased how much the students have grown musically. She went on to say that these students have, "been exponentially more musical than they were when they started." Not only is Ms. Abbott proud of music students, so is the Blakelock community.
Blakelock has one again been able to proudly demonstrate its phenomenal music program along with the strong collaborative skills of the T.A.B Music Community.
