The Hwa Chong Leadership Sabbatical was first conducted in 2005 to provide an avenue for student leaders to come together for a week of workshops and activities which include the teaching of leadership theories such as servant leadership, transactional leadership, situational leadership, etc. Participants come from a variety of student bodies including the Students' Council, CCAs and other student leadership bodies.
In 2011, the course expanded with the addition of the Leadership Sabbatical (Uniformed Groups) for cadet leaders from the four Uniformed Groups (NCC, NPCC, Scouts and SJBS) for a week of camaraderie and fellowship. Apart from the common workshops and field trips attended together with student leaders from the other group, there are also activities including dialogue sessions and inter-UG sharing of good practices.
The sabbatical is one of the milestones of development for student leaders by the end of their high school life.
