Based on my observation with this Practicum 101 - Internship/Off-Campus Learning, I am pointing to some corresponding recommendations that the BSCA Program must be considered to contribute to having an effective Internship/Practicum. These recommendations were enabled to help in shaping the BSCA program framework for this Practicum activity in this area, and these were intended to be strategic guidelines. These were the following recommendations that I would like to elaborate further:
● The HCDC-BSCA Program must consider the right alternative ways of dealing with the Internship program students as they must have to learn and apply these learnings even though they were doing it virtually. Like integrating the kind of instructional approach in this virtual webinar workshops.
● The virtual learning webinar sessions must have to be interactive with the speaker and the students as the speaker must elaborate further on their topic and have consideration to those students who were not capable of understanding every discussion. The learning session must not end with a question and answer portion. Instead, the speakers and the BSCA teachers must have to deal with interactive activities that could help and practice the students what they understood about.
● Some students who were struggling in terms of their internet connections must have considered their condition, and the BSCA Program must have accepted if the issue is valid, as the internet is one of many problems of the students during online classes. They also must be aware of the possessions of technological devices that the students used in attending the online webinar series, as most of them were using smartphones and relying on data connections.
● Hoping that the virtual learning workshop for the Internship Program will not happen on the next batch of internships of the BSCA students like this kind of thing is not advisable for me like this only limits the capability of each student to widen his/her thoughts and knowledge in discovering more about the customs administration and its industries.
● The BSCA Program must push through the Off-Campus Learning of the BSCA students as this kind of activity will depend on the Higher Educational Institution, and this was arrived at from discussion and agreement made among the school administrators, faculty advisor, practicum site supervisor, and the students. This will be pushed through with the help of the HCDC administration to make this possible.
● There is a huge difference between virtual learning workshops, unlike actual or off-campus internship experiences. Truly, an off-campus learning experience is very advisable as this witnesses the actual field of a customs administration student to practice his/her expertise as to go along with the customs industries and agencies.
● I expect that the next BSCA students who undergo the Internship program may experience how to deal with different hands-on areas of customs-related activities, even in a virtual class. The discussion will be better if there is an implementation of what we have taught in our past school years. Wanting to explore more with this customs administration degree as we were eager to be more skilled and capable of different activities that a customs broker may have.
