Students are provided with an opportunity to develop possible solutions to industry-based problems by applying pathway content knowledge, skills, and strategies. Students present their work in a formal manner to industry professionals and members of the community.
Performance Based Assessments can be done in-person, through a virtual platform, or a combination of both.

Students apply technical knowledge and employability skills to address a problem co-designed between education and industry/community partners
Provide students an opportunity to practice professional communication skills through collaboration and a final presentation of their solution and/or product.
Provide students the opportunity to collaborate and develop solutions for authentic work-based problems / challenges
Industry/community partners work with the educational institution to ensure a safe working environment for students
Co-design an authentic, industry-based problem with multiple possible solutions
Identify company/organization employees who could act as mentors and evaluators of student projects
Decide upon final use of the product/solution (if applicable)
Work with the educational institution to coordinate forms, timelines, and procedures
Attend student presentations
Provide students with feedback on the final product/presentation
Debrief with the school coordinator and arrange for other ways that the school and organization can work together to support student interest and learning along the WBL continuum (example: industry mentoring, internship opportunities, teacher externship opportunities, etc.)
Typically one-time experiences at school or through a huakaʻi or field trip to build student awareness of the wide range of career, college, and community options available to them
Exploration experiences go beyond brief exposure of awareness-building experiences by extending the experience through multiple interactions or more rigorous student participation
Preparation level experiences strengthen student content knowledge and skills through coursework linked to extended interaction with community and industry professionals
Training experiences are extended interactions that require the application of the learned technical, employability, and academic knowledge in real-world industry settings
