Using the Sewing Machine, I created a pillow because this was my first project on this machine and I got a late start so I decided to make a simple pillow. I still need to finish putting in stuffing but the design looks super good.
During this process, I learned how to thread string through the bottom of the sewing machine. this took me a while and a few videos before I was able to do it. It seemed difficult at first but was really simple and all I had to do was move down the needle to catch the string.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Computational Thinker because I used different ways of thinking to make the sewing machine work. I tried many different ways to thread the machine and some things went bad and one way went good.
A challenge I overcame on this project was finding where all of the pieces and parts went. I was able to do it by looking at the directions but I did have to look some things up to find what they were. In the end, I knew what everything did and I was able to create the first project on the classroom's new sewing machine.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the size of my project. The reason why I would change it is because I like making big things like blankets and shirts with my sewing machine so I would want to do the same thing here in the classroom. I would probably try customizing a t-shirt with the designs.
