Using The 3D printer, I created a one of a kind mug because I am a collector of mugs and I definitely do not yet have a 3D printed one and I think it will be unique to have one I made myself. At first, I thought a mug was a bad second idea because it seemed really basic. But then I remembered that I can make this mug look however I want. And that's what I did. I made this mug with two rings, a cylinder, a U shape (for the handle), and a half-circle with a whole on the top for a lid. I also thought about connecting the lid with the mug it's self but then I found it would be really hard to get any form of a drink or other snack in it and that's what led me to my final design.
During this process, I learned that you don't always stick with your first idea or sketch. I started with an idea to make a Nail polish remover cap but then I thought, why to make something I most likely will never use instead of making something fun and useful for daily life. So I thought of all the things I use in daily life and I thought of cups. With this project I learned to be creative and how to make my ideas in my head into a 3D object, I can hold and I hope to do more with this new way of thinking.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Creative Communicator because I try to express myself through my unique design. Though this does look like your average mug you might use on ice cream night or maybe for some other snack it is not. with the unique dome-like lid you can take your delicious drink on the go and still have wiped cream and sprinkles on top.
A challenge I overcame on this project was finding out the measurements I needed to have to have the right length, width, and height for my mug-like cup. I was able to do it First, by changing the graph layout from millimeters to inches so it would be easier for me to understand. Then I used a water bottle from the "Making at home" section. Finally, I made my mug a reasonable size for a cup or mug.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the design. The reason why I would change it is That I would want to make it more personalized to me. I would do this by adding my name or by making a more complex design on the sides. It was a little difficult for me to even think of this simple design but I think with more experience and practice I will be able to make a better design that will make it more portable and prettier.
