On the first day of our project we brainstormed Ideas and began creating a map. After we decided to make a platforming/Parkour game we began laying out the planets in an ascending distanced format to start off our solar system parkour game.
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I'm working in a team with Carter Bell.
What materials will you need for your project?
A computer and Cospaces.
What is your plan to create in this project?
A game that anyone can play and can be made quickly.
What unique qualities will your project have?
day 1- We brainstormed ideas and came up with a map for our game.
day 2-We began coding our game to have moving map objects.
day 3-We continued coding for this day to get Saturn and Neptune rotating.
day 4-We implemented a death/respawn system using a big plate on the bottom, making it invisible and setting the collision to teleport to the beginning.
day 5-We continued adding to the map and rotating the moons with buttons and standing reactions.
day 6-We added the final end goal, made it spin and return the player to the menu upon collision.
Using Cospaces, I created a video game because I wanted to make something everyone can enjoy.
During this process, I learned how to use Cospaces to create scene changes and moving objects that react to player actions.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Computational thinker because I had to program the game to work in a planned out process to have it all work in tandem.
A challenge I overcame on this project was figuring out why some planets wouldn't spin if a different one did. I was able to do it by trying different kinds of coblocks to see what works.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the length of the map. The reason why I would change it is because the map was too short so it didn't take very long to finish.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Digital Multimedia CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in Video Game Design.
Next we switch out the program from the planets movement and special effects. We do this to make sure they both work infinitely at the same time.
We continue to work on the programming for a couple days to make sure that everything is working correctly.
This video shows the final product of what our game is, iMovie helped us make it completely silent. We made a Parkour/Platforming game in Cospaces. Our game has a space theme and includes, spinning/moving planets, working buttons and a scene change to end the game.
