Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
By myself
What materials will you need for your project?
iPad, sphero and computer
What is your plan to create in this project?
a sphero bot going through a course
What unique qualities will your project have?
a bot i drive going through a self made course
started testing out the modes and got logged into it
got the parts to set up the course
got the whole course set up
tested the course and made some changes to the it to be the best for the mode i am using
Finished the video and made it through the course
I used my iPad, computer, and Sphero robot to create a video of the Sphero going through a course. I controlled the Sphero myself as it moved along the path. I really enjoy learning about robots and discovering how they work.
During this process, I learned how to use a control app. I used it to make the robot move through the course. It was interesting to see how the app controlled the robot’s actions.
The seven standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project connects to the Empowered Learner standard because I used apps on my iPad to explore how the robot works. I learned how to control its movements and guide it through a course. This helped me take charge of my own learning and build new skills through technology.
A challenge I overcame in this project was learning how to use the robot. At first, it was a little confusing to figure out how everything worked. I was able to understand it better by watching videos and testing things out on my own. This helped me learn through practice and problem-solving.
If I had the chance to do this project again, I would change how long the course was. The course I made felt too short, and the robot finished it quickly. Next time, I would make a longer and more challenging course so the robot has more obstacles to navigate. That would make the project even more fun and interesting.
Hastings High School’s Career and Technical Education Program offers courses in Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Computer Programming CTE program because it involves using technology to control and program a robot. By working with the Sphero and its app, I learned skills similar to those used in computer programming, such as problem-solving and logical thinking.
My project connects to careers in robotic engineering because robotic engineers design and program robots. In my project, I learned some of the same basic skills, like controlling a robot and understanding how it moves. This experience helped me see what it might be like to work in a robotics-related career.
