Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
myself
What materials will you need for your project?
my iPad, the computer and the drone
What is your plan to create in this project?
a programmed drone to fly around
What unique qualities will your project have?
a drone that I programmed to fly
finished my 8P3 and started watching the video to know what to do
started coding after watching the last videos I needed to and just started testing things
Added more coding and flew it for the first time
Finished all the testing and the course
Finished the code, course, testing and recording to turn in
Using my drone, iPad, coding site, and computer, I created a project where I programmed my drone to fly through a custom course. I really enjoyed designing the code and watching my drone respond to my commands, and this experience made me even more excited about pursuing a career in IT when I’m older.
During this process, I learned how to code and control my drone to fly through an obstacle course. This experience taught me problem-solving skills and gave me a deeper understanding of how coding can be used to create real-world technology.
My project connects to the “Knowledge Constructor” standard because I used critical thinking and problem-solving skills to figure out the coding and design for my drone. Through research, testing, and experimentation, I constructed a program that allowed my drone to successfully navigate an obstacle course. This process helped me strengthen my understanding of how technology works and develop important skills for my future in IT.
A challenge I overcame during this project was starting with no prior knowledge about the drone or how to code. At first, it was difficult to understand how everything worked, but I stayed determined. By watching videos, researching, and experimenting on my own, I gradually figured it out and successfully completed my project.
If I had the chance to do this project again, I would extend the amount of coding I included to make the program more advanced and the drone’s flight path longer. I would do this because the first version felt a little short, and I believe adding more code would make the project even more interesting and challenging.
Hastings High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program offers a variety of pathways, including Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Computer Programming CTE program because it involved using coding skills to design and control my drone’s flight path, which reflects the kind of problem-solving and technical creativity this program encourages.
My project connects to a future career in IT because it required patience, problem-solving, and a strong understanding of how coding works. Learning to troubleshoot errors and experiment with different commands helped me experience the kind of skills that IT professionals use every day
