Using Reverse Engineering, We took the computers and took them apart, we did this because we wanted to figure out what each part did and how they worked. For example, I took apart the DVD player, and doing so let me know what happens when we insert our DVDs into the computer. Also, we did this project so we could use the remains for the precious metals inside; therefore, doing this project let us supply the classroom with 3d printer filament.
During this process, I learned how to use different types of screwdrivers and tools to disassemble stuff such as the computer, for example, when I found the driver I realized I needed to use a different type of tool to get them open. Also, when I found a part that has small screws I found a smaller version of the Phillips to get the job done, I learned that size did matter for building or taking apart stuff. Overall I feel like I learned some valuable info from this project that I could use in a field such as forms of engineering and maybe forms of construction.
Out of the 7 standards which include, Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. Out of these standards, I believe my project ties to Empowered Learner, The reason I think this is because I had to figure out how to take out each piece of the computer by figuring out how to approach each problem I found with removal and learning from the process to figure out how to take apart other pieces that had similar attributes. Also, I learned from the experience; therefore, boosting my knowledge of the subject I was working with and how it could proceed to make a strategy to make the learning process easier for me to understand. Overall, I feel that this project tied to Empowered Learner because I had to form an understanding of the project and use that understanding to help me more.
A challenge I overcame on this project was the fact I got a little behind, this caused me to still have a lot left I didn't finish. was able to overcome it by being more motivated and putting my all into figuring out how to take the pieces out and get each part out without ruining the green board. An example of this is when I didn't understand how to take the fan out so I tried different tools and techniques until I found a way to get it out without snapping it. Overall I think this challenge helped me learn more about my mistakes and how they helped me learn more about reverse engineering.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the amount of photos I took. The reason why I feel like I should have changed this is because I didn't feel like I was putting my full attention on photographing which caused me to get fewer photos than I should have. A good example of this is my DVD player, there aren't as many photos because I rushed the photos last second and didn't take them as soon as I removed apart. Overall I still feel like I put a lot of effort into this project and that my photos were good enough to display what I did even if there should have been more.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program provides an array of classes, including the following, Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. In my opinion, I feel my project connects to the Digital Multimedia CTE program at Hastings High School. The reason I believe this is because I was taking apart a computer that technically ties as digital multimedia itself, this means that the whole process had to do with digital multimedia already. My reason for computers being tied to digital multimedia is that a computer can transmit media digitally, and we checked each part that lets it transmit said media on the internet, giving us a overall better understanding of how it worked and what it can do. Overall I felt that this project tied closely to digital multimedia.
My project connects to careers in Hardware Reverse Engineering because we took pieces of a computer and took them out for analysis to make sure they were clean and profitable for selling. Also the computer itself unplugged is already hardware, this means that because we reverse-engineered it meaning we already did a form of Hardware Reverse Engineering which let us learn how to do reverse engineering on a physical device. Overall I see this project connecting most to Hardware Reverse Engineering due to the steps we did in the project that were similar to the career path and it's motives.
