8P2 - Robot

Using the dash robot, I decided to use it to make a video about the robots using Lego tools to fight each other. I did this because I wanted to challenge my friend ( Richard ) and see whose build does better when they run into each other. This helps me to learn how to use structures to build a steady and tough weapon that won't fall off when fighting.

During this process, I learned how to build Lego weapons, which could be helpful because it could help me with stuff that is associated with designing, this project lets me design my weapon and face it against my opponents. This helps me think more about the structure of the building, letting me strategically make a structure with the materials given.

Out of all the standards which include the following Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. Out of these 7, I think my project ties to Innovative Designer, I think this because I used the technology at my disposal to plan out and make my project in creative ways. Also, I was able to change my design to fix the problems I had.

A challenge I overcame on this project was recording our video, this was an issue because people were walking in front of our space which completely ruined the video and our robot designs. We fixed this by moving over to our seats so that no one would run into our spot for stuff inside the cabinets or for something they left near our area. Doing this made the video go smoothly and it didn't get hurt.

If I could redo this project I would make my design look cleaner and more than just a plastic mass. I would have wanted to fix this by making my build more than just a sturdy piece of plastic and instead making it something like a sword or a spear. I would want to do this because it would have made it look nicer and the design could be used strategically to pierce vulnerable points of the other robot. Also, making it look nicer could make it more appealing to the eye.

The Hastings High School offers quite a bit of options for careers, the include Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, and Insurance. I feel that my project connects to the Engineering Design Program because we had to code and build to make our robot stronger than the other robots or to give them a better array of attacks for the fight.

I think my project connects to careers in Construction because our project was about building a weapon, when building this weapon I had to make a plan about how to structure my build so it could be steady. Then after that, I had to find the pieces that could work with what I was trying to build, and if it didn't I had to go find other pieces and make a new plan to make it more structurally sound than it could have been before.
