Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
With a partner, Ryan
What materials will you need for your project?
Legos, iPad, and the Stop Motion app
What is your plan to create in this project?
A campsite
What unique qualities will your project have?
It will have a dog and campfire and a pond
Answered Planning questions and made a list of ten ideas.
Made a pond with grass around it.
I started taking photos for the video.
I took about 100 more photos
I built a fire and moved the Lego character while Ryan took photos.
We got the jet-ski in the water and the girl drove it around and we started getting the dirt bike out of the trailer.
I took photos then Ryan switched to taking photos and we had the motorcycle break down so we didn't have to ride it around because it didn't stay up on the legos.
I took photos for half the class and we started getting photos of the packed up campsite.
This the final video of the lego campsite
Using Lego's I created a Lego campsite because I guess it's kind of camping weather, but I had so many ideas of scenes to do with the campsite which would us have plenty of photos of scenes for a video. I also had ideas of making a pond and Ryan said he had a Lego camper at his house, he also made a couple vehicles. I also couldn't think of anything else to create for this project that was actually fun but doing a campsite seemed fun especially since camping in real life is pretty fun.
During this process, I learned it's not easy to move little tiny figures like the Lego people and animals. It is also hard to get certain things like the motorcycle to stand up on its own on the green platform without falling which is why we didn't drive the motorcycle around. It also seemed that no matter how still we held the camera and even had some supports around it, the video still ended up a little shaky.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative designer because we designed a video and we used Lego's to do it. We had a plan and a way we were going to follow and achieve the plan. We designed the video all by ourselfs, we didn't look up any ideas we were thinking about what would create a good video but also an entertaining one. There are so many things that can go right and wrong with camping like in our video we had an alligator come and almost eat the girl. We also designed the scenes and thought how we were going to plan them out and do them.
A challenge I overcame on this project was getting people and objects to stand I was able to do it by finding a piece that was about the same color as like the object to place under. the camper wasn't level, so it was tilted at an angle, we put a two-piece Lego underneath it to support it evenly. There were objects that were just impossible to stand like the motorcycle and there really was no way to make it stand while our character was riding on the motorcycle.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the events we did and finish the video. The reason why I would change it is because we spent the first few days planning what we were going to do and creating it so that kind of effected how much time we had left to complete the project. So, I would work faster, and my partner and I would have to completely stay on task and not let anything distract us. In the video we really only had about 5 events during the whole camping trip which were: building a campfire and riding a jet ski so next time I might add another person come and build a tent or have another couple people come and tell stories by the fire and then have like a bear come out.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Digital Multimedia CTE program at Hastings High School.
My project connects to careers in graphic designer because a graphic designer simplifies and creates stories and they use a bunch of different designing skills and one of the skills is photography. They use photography to create stories which is what we did. We took photos of Lego characters moving them a little bit each photo to create and tell a story.
