Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I'm working with Ryan and Hannah
What materials will you need for your project?
Cardboard, markers or colored pencils, hot glue, scissors
What is your plan to create in this project?
To create a fridge that can dispense ice
What unique qualities will your project have?
A dispenser and hand made ice cubes
Built our website and did research
Created our plan and made our group
We found our materials and started creating ice cubes and they didn't turn out how we planned.
I made bigger ice cubes and used white cardboard
I only had enough time to make 1 ice cube and I talked with my group for another plan to make the ice dispenser, I also cut some more pieces for the ice cubes.
I made one more ice cube and then held the fridge so Ryan could poke holes in the side for the flap of the dispenser.
I cut a little cardboard flap out for part of the dispenser to slide through and we glued it to the fridge.
Here is my video of my project:
Using cardboard, I created a fridge with an ice dispenser because it sounded like a fun and cool idea.
During this process, I learned it is definitely helpful to have multiple people and that it is a lot harder to design and such than people may think.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to innovative designer because my group came up with the fridge idea and then we designed it.
A challenge I overcame on this project was figuring out how to install/put in the ice dispenser and make it dispense ice. I was able to do it by adding a skewer and making it move forward when the flap sticking out the front of the fridge is pushed.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the style of the fridge and attempt to make a better ice cube dispenser. The reason why I would change it is because it could've been better/more effective and it wasn't the best style/desin and didn't work that well.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Construction trades CTE program at Hastings High School.
My project connects to careers in dry wall and ceiling tile instructors because they have to be able to put down dry wall and tiles in the right place and they cut materials to size and they also have to install fixtures. They use tools like power saws along with adhesive nails and/or screws.
